These comments are coming from an individual who has had horrible experiences with regard to dentistry, and specially root canals in general. In the past, other professionals have not been able to ensure my level of comfort throughout a procedure, which elevates my anxiety when I have to have anything done. Due to these past experiences, I admit I allow issues to fester until I have to get something done, or else deal with the pain. By the time I went to the Root Canal Experts I was in extreme pain, and knew that if I didn’t take immediate action I might have to deal with additional consequences. Therefore, when my dentist referred me to the Root Canal Experts I was considered an “emergency” case, and they took action and got me in immediately.
I shared my apprehensions with Dr. Francisco Banchs regarding root canals and he took his time and walked me through the process. He explained why this particular situation was happening, what he believes needs to be done to alleviate my pain, and what the “next steps” would be for long term care. He was patient and understanding, while answering all of my questions and concerns. During the root canal I was in no pain at all! Even if I felt a twinge Dr. Banchs addressed it immediately. Due to a movie I was watching I actually found myself laughing out loud during the procedure. Who knew that this was possible during a root canal!!?! Also, I can’t say enough about the office staff. Everyone was professional, kind, and considerate. Due to the staff, and the quality of care I received throughout the procedure, the whole experience was wonderful considering the situation. My thanks go to all who helped to make my experience as pleasant as possible, and please know that I will refer your office to anyone who needs a root canal.

Next, I am writing to let you know how much I appreciate your professionalism and compassion. I think I like it better than the chocolate frozen yogurt! Seriously, a couple years ago I had the unfortunate experience of having dental work done by a very unprofessional and emotionally abusive dentist. The difference between your care and his is like night and day. I trust you and adore your staff. I appreciate you discussion my options regarding “keeping calm” and “reducing my anxiety”. It may be helpful for you to know that some of the ways I reduce my anxiety or nervousness is to communicate honestly with you and your staff and through humor. For example, while Karan was taking the x-rays, I let her know that I was aware that I was feeling a big sense of relief that my tooth pain would be over soon and that the “easy listening” piano music playing overhead was triggering me to almost cry. Just by talking about it with her helped me relax and more past it. Then “Bam” needles of novocaine triggered my heart to start beating faster and I wanted you to know what I was experiencing from a “medical” standpoint and needed a little reassurance from my favorite dentist (compassion and kindness do go a long way). Your assurance helped and was the “drug” I needed to help me relax and move past it. Then Celine Dion hit it out of the park for me! A natural mood booster for a child of the 70-80’s. I am sure Clonazepam would help, but I rather try: Compassion, Reassurance and a dose of Disco! Thank you again. Amy G.

It appears as I look this over that perhaps I might have a high tolerance for pain, and that is not so. My experience with this procedure was totally painless and actually pleasant. I’ve had other root canals and know how those felt. I couldn’t even begin to feel the anesthesia injections. I loved being able to watch TV and hear the TV with the headphones. The only bumps in the road have been trying to collate our insurance. Procedures aren’t submitted to the insurance company until it is over, even though it is paid in full at the beginning appointment. Our insurance company sent the check to your office and it had to be returned to them. We just received a check this week from them, but the insurance is still not straightened out. Obviously our money was tied up for several weeks at a tough time of year. However, your staff has been wonderful during the many phone calls to your office straightening this out. – Mildred F.

I was really scared about the whole thing. I thought maybe I should have laughing gas or something. I was offered medication that would relax me, but I really didn’t want to go that route. The first time I’ve ever had Novocaine in the roof of my mouth and a plastic shield in my mouth during a procedure really freaked me out at first. It was different and uncomfortable. However, the doctor immediately stopped after realizing how I felt, I had some water, and suction. After that, I was fine. I really appreciated the distraction of the movie as well. When Dr. Byrne said she was done, I was so relieved at how I felt, that I “made it through” I wanted to give her a hug! I was particularly impressed with Dr. Banchs’ anesthetic administration techniques. My current dentist frequently lights me up like an electric eel! I do not like the epinephrine– not sure why that has become routine in dental anesthesia. In the “old days,” one novacaine injection would provide sufficient anesthesia for my extensive dental work– now I routinely need two, plus additional around the tooth, so I’m not seeing much benefit to the inclusion of epinephrine except for cold sweats, racing heart and nervous/jitters. – Geraldine G.

I can’t speak highly enough about Dr. Byrne and her staff. Upon entering the office it is apparent that the office is centered around patient care. Even the exam rooms are centered around comfort with TV’s and headphones while the procedure is underway. The front desk staff is all very sweet/helpful and that continues with the entire office during the course of your care. Dr. Byrne was really great about taking the time to explain the procedure timeline, answering any/all of the concerns I had as well as addressing any pain that came up during the procedure (very minor I might add). If that wasn’t enough, just the small things like the day after phone call to check in on your condition and the ability to talk with all the staff as genuinely good people sets this office apart. Four years prior to this I had a root canal done on another tooth at a different dental specialty practice. No correlation can be established between these two experiences having the same purpose. No X-rays were taken, no description of the problem was given, the dentist seldom had anyone present to assist, injection of anesthesia was done multiple times throughout the procedure lasting over three hours, no medication was placed in the tooth, no follow up call was made nor was there a follow up appointment scheduled. When a call was made to the practice two days later about pain in the tooth especially at night, the matter was addressed by a secretary who said this was “normal” and to manage any discomfort with over the counter medication for as long as necessary. Something seems terribly wrong here!!! I am most thankful that through the skill of Dr. Francisco Banchs my tooth was successfully treated and is now going through the restoration process by Dr. Gerald Benjamin. I would not hesitate to recommend this excellent medical practice to others. – Linda B.
